Det hele kan ikke forklares af Christian. Han forklarer kun, at 'parallel-universet', faktisk er et tidløst univers; et sted, the Losties finder sammen igen efter døden for at kunne 'move on'. Det blev ikke skabt pga. brintbomben. Brintbomben gjorde blot, at de blev bragt tilbage til den rigtige tid på øen, hvor der var flashes hele tiden.

At tid ikke spiller en rolle i det univers, er en vigtig pointe for forståelsen. De dør ikke på samme tidspunkt. F.eks. dør Jack på øen, som vi ser det, mens Hurley og Ben - efter al sandsynlighed -beskytter øen i mange år fremover. Kate og Sawyer forlader øen og lever sandsynligvis deres liv på fastlandet, indtil de dør. Alle forenes de igen i det tidsløse univers for sammen at kunne bevæge sig videre.

I thought this was a great way to wrap up the series. I have read a lot of reviews online. Some people don't seem to get how it ended. I think I just figured it out, and it makes perfect sense (I'm sure I'm not the first to get it - but here it is anyway). Basically, everything that happened on the island actually happened. As per Christian Shepard's conversation with Jack at the end, everything that happened was real. Jack died at the end of the episode, when he closed his eyes. Until that moment, he was alive - he did not die in the plane crash, or when the nuke got detonated at the end of season 5, etc. Everyone died, but at different times. Some died before Jack (ie Jin, Sun, and Sayid on the submarine, Locke died when Ben strangled him, Anna Lucia died when Michael shot her way back, etc etc...), some died after him (ie everyone who made it onto the Ajira flight off the island in this episode, as well as Hurley, Ben, and Desmond - these people may have lived to be 100, who knows? It is suggested the Hugo and Ben worked together to protect the island for quite some time after we last see them on the island - "You were a great number 2 Ben" ... "You were a great number 1, Hugo") Everything that happened in the "sideways" universe in Season 6 took place in some sort of Purgatory or waiting area to which the characters were oblivious (except for Eloise Widmore - somehow she knew all along). If we had to set a time period for when this sideways universe existed, it would be sometime waaay in the future after all the characters have died (some of them we never see how they die - they could've lived long lives and died of old age for all we know - I'm referring to those on the Ajira flight that left the island this episode, and Ben, Hugo, and Desmond). In this purgatory universe, Charlie sort of dimly figured out what was going on when he almost choked on the Heroin, but it was Desmond who first completely understood. Because he was "special", Desmond was somehow able to be aware of what was happening in both universes/timelines simultaneously - in the "real" universe on the island in the past, and in the sideways universe in the "future" after they all had died. It was like he was the same person in both universes, at the same time, if that makes sense. Now, this part I'm not clear about (and unlike what I wrote above, is certainly open to interpretation), so I'm just guessing - My understanding of the light on the island, and Jacob and the Man in Black is that Jacob's job was to keep the light, well, lit. As long as that light is lit, people are able to leave the "Purgatory" or whatever it was, and move on (to heaven or nirvana or whatever). The Man in Black, in trying to leave the island, had to snuff out the light. With the light out, the characters would be stuck in the Purgatory forever, unable to leave, and probably unaware of each other - forever "Lost" to themselves and each other, as it were. So, Jack essentially "saved" them all at the end of this episode - if not physically, then certainly spiritually. Now, I know this finale didn't answer some of the major questions posed in the show - but I think the questions left unanswered were superficial anyway. I read entil2001's review below after I wrote this - he/she is pretty much bang on the money as well.
